Barnett1 National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, United States Synopsis: We analyze the contributions of cardiac-pulsation to the variability in estimates of diffusion tensor quantities in the human brain. We identify two contributions to variability arising from cardiac pulsation, namely (i) mis-registration of different structures and (ii) non-uniform intra-voxel motion (e.g. stretch and shear of the tissue), and propose a novel approach for differentiating them.

Differentiation of Edematous, Tumoral and Normal Areas of Brain Using Diffusion Tensor and Neurite Orientation Dispersion and Density Imaging
Background: Presurigical planning for glioma tumor resection and radiotherapy treatment require proper delineation of tumoral and peritumoral areas of brain. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is the most common mathematical model applied for diffusion weighted MRI data. Neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging (NODDI) is another mathematical model for DWI data modeling. Objective: We stud...
متن کاملLINEAR PULSATION CHARACTERISTICS OF MIRA VARIABLE STARS
The linear adiabatic pulsation-periods of Mira variable stars have been derived. Approximately 2701[1]models were calculated for M = 0.7 MΘ to 2 MΘ stars with radii from 180 RΘ to 340 RΘ and luminosities from 2800 LΘ to 10,000 LΘ. The chemical composition of all models is (X,Z) = (0.7,0.02). From the result of this study, linear relations on Luminosity-Period-Mass relationship and luminosity-pe...
متن کاملError Propagation Framework for Diffusion Tensor Imaging
INTRODUCTION In a typical Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) experiment, generally only one estimate of a tensor is obtained in each voxel. Since the tensor estimate itself is derived from the noisy diffusion-weighted (DW) signals, here we derive the SD of the tensor and tensor-derived quantities by error propagation from the DW signals. This error propagation technique relies on the nonlinear leas...
متن کاملInvestigating the need of triggering the acquisition for infant diffusion MRI: A quantitative study including bootstrap statistics
Diffusion weighted magnetic resonance imaging is increasingly being used for neonatal and young pediatric subjects. Our purpose was to investigate a) whether cardiac triggering was needed to reduce variability of diffusion (tensor) imaging data, b) how pulsation artifacts affect the fitted diffusion tensor when triggering is not used and c) the feasibility of triggered data acquisition in neona...
متن کاملPropagation Framework for Diffusion Tensor Imaging via Diffusion Tensor Error Propagation Framework for Diffusion Tensor Imaging via Diffusion Tensor Representations
This preprint is made available because the published work cited below had several infelicities due to production error, i.e., awkward layout of equations and font styles. The conversion from the Words document here to IEEE TMI format was a mess. Abstract An analytical framework of error propagation for diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is presented. Using this framework, any uncertainty of intere...
